About Plitvice Lakes
Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Southeast Europe and the largest national park in Croatia. It is situated in the mountainous karst area of central Croatia, at the border to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register among the first natural sites worldwide. Each year, more than 1.1 million visitors are recorded.
The beautiful scenery at Plitvice is enhanced by the varied colors of the 16 different lakes' water. The lakes at the park, range from grey to green, to numerous shades of blue. The colours depend on the sunlight and the minerals in each pool.
The park’s most notable waterfall is the Veliki Splat, which falls from a height of over 30 meters. Some of the great mountain peaks include; Gornja Pljesevica peak (1,640 meters), Seliski Vrh peak (1,280 meters), and Medvedak(884 meters).
